Regina Owens
January 5, 1955 - November 21, 2020
Regina, loving mother of PS founder Marcia Joi, poured her love and service into Perfectly Scarred. Proudly serving as Executive Board Secretary and volunteering in the Burn Unit at Children's Hospital of Michigan, she accepted her call home into God's heavenly chorus peacefully on Saturday, November 21, 2020. Regina's love and spirit will live in our hearts and in loving memory we honor her impact both in this world and as a significant part of the PS family.
Regina Owens is a retiree of the U.S. Department of the Treasury where her business acumen spanned from clerical work to accounting, analytics and technology. For 34 years, Regina has traveled throughout the nation teaching and developing course materials related to tax law, partnership, corporate and estate entities. Throughout her career, she takes pride in having managed and developed several hundred employees and served as an instructor to thousands. Upon retiring, she went back to school to earn a degree in General Studies. Prior to working she earned a degree in Business Technology,
For years Regina has served her community through coordinating Vacation Bible School, serving as the President of the Young Women’s Auxiliary in her Christian ministry and mentoring young professionals in all walks of life. As an avid writer Regina developed booklets, one titled “Effective Christian Leadership” that covered numerous topics. Her commitment to serve extends beyond her professional and Christian life. Her passion for whole relationships and helping others on life’s journey has yielded many workshops and self-developed materials. She has a dedicated ministry of song, starting at the tender age of seven.
As an executive member and secretary of Perfectly Scarred, Inc., an organization purposed to strengthen young burn survivors and other youth with permanent scarring, Regina helps the youth to embrace their scars. As the mother of Marcia Joi Phillips, Founder and President of Perfectly Scarred Inc., and child burn survivor, Regina’s passion for this organization comes from the first-hand knowledge of how scars impact a person’s life. Her service to this organization will be displayed in the role as the secretary. She brings a wealth of skills and experience in administration and teambuilding. Her desire to help those scarred lessen the pain, regret and anxiety around burns allows her to serve from her heart.
Regina is a vibrant spirit who does her best to inject humor whenever she can, including during critical situations to relax everyone involved. Although she is approachable she is serious about what she commits to. When she retired people were concerned about how she would survive not working. Little did they know, she was a busy woman outside of work. Regina has a fond memory from her retirement dinner during Beyoncé’s song “Put A Ring On It.” Along with her daughter and nieces, she jumped up and performed Beyoncé’s routine, shocking all of her coworkers and church members.
Regina is a wife and mother of a blended family of three children and has one daughter-in-love, and three grandchildren. She is a sister, niece, cousin and aunt but the greatest of these she believes is being a proud Child of God. Regina Owens, a hard worker, inspiration and resilient spirit.
