Marcia Joi
President & Founder
Marcia Joi Phillips is a woman with the mission to encourage, engage and empower others. Her passion is for guiding people to recognize their true selves, including the realization of their passions in life, and through this she has impacted the lives of many for greater.
The inspiration for Perfectly Scarred, Inc. (PS, Inc) is the vision of Marcia that grew from her personal experiences as a childhood burn survivor and her longing to fill a gap in the local burn survivor community. As a child Marcia viewed her burns as a hindrance; a mark that excluded her from all the good she deserved but was unsure of that fact. As an adult and having embraced her total self, scars and all, Marcia desires to support others in embracing the beauty of their scars. She impresses upon others to know that “scarred appearances do not equal scarred potential.”
Marcia understands firsthand, the importance of positive reinforcement and the need for a community, people having similar life experiences. A visionary and inspiration to all, Marcia believes that
“All of our flaws are flawless, every imperfection is perfect and every scar is proof that we’ve battled yet survived to tell the story to essentially help someone else.”
Her positive energy and resilient spirit creates an environment of love, compassion and support. Marcia is an engaging and impactful public speaker and group session facilitator. If given the opportunity to sit with her for a minimum of 20 minutes, it is likely that you’ll receive some impactful nugget that will inspire transformation in some area of your life.
In addition to her personal connection to the issues facing burn survivors, Marcia is a professional trained to address such issues. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and certified School Social Worker, providing mental health services to the public and serves as a liaison between hospitals and the community to aid consumers in reducing risks.
To know Marcia is to have experienced her contagious smile and laughter. She is a loving daughter, aunt and godmother and a supportive sister as a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Marcia enjoys a multitude of things but loves breaking into song and dance randomly, is secretly a comedian and she absolutely loves being creative.
Although her personal life experiences were the catalyst for the vision of PS, Inc, it is Marcia’s heart for the emotional freedom and increased quality of life for every child burn survivor that is PS, Inc’s driving force. The bonus is that her professional training aids in the appropriateness of the services/events provided, which allows for the recipients/participants to receive and engage in services/events that are solely focused on their enjoyment and success and not on the personal gains of the founder/foundation/providers.
